Phacoemulsification combined with trabeculectomy for treatment of cataract and glaucoma

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of the combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy(triple procedure) on patient with cataract and glaucoma.Methods Triple procedure was performed by means of scleral tunnel flap on 43 eyes of 38 patients.The follow-up period was 6 months. Results The corrected visual acuities were ≥0.5 in 35 eyes(81.4%),0.2 to 0.4 in 5 eyes (11.63%),≤0.1 in 3 eyes(6.98%).The postoperative intraocular pressure was ≤15 mmHg in 14 eyes(32.56%),16-21 mmHg in 24 eyes(55.8%),≥22 mmHg in 5 eyes(11.63%). Conclusions The triple procedure is effective for improving the visual acuity and reducing intraocular pressure in patients with cataract and glaucoma.
