Abstract
The statistical theorem and method of ridge regression were introduced,and the difference and relationship between ridge regression and traditional regression were expounded. The statistical criteria for evaluating the gain and loss of ridge regression were presented. The applicable occasions of ridge regression in the field of crop science and quantitative genetics were suggested, and an example concerned with individual selection in wheat breeding was used to explain the application and calculating procedure of ridge regression.
