The Inequality between Art and Beauty——Comments on Ducasse's The Philosophy of Art and Reed's Theory in The Grass Roots of Art

Since the 20th century,by the drastic revolution of the western modern art,the aesthetic cognition of the relationship between art and beauty has changed accordingly.The assertion ofArt is not equal to beautyfluctuates the aesthetic concept ofArt is beauty.The reasons why art is not equal to beauty lie in:the complexity of the artist self decides that art is not an activity that creates beauty;the differentiation between the two categories,art and beauty,decides that art and beauty can not be mixed up;that many works of art are ugly in art history decides that art is not equivalent to beauty.Art is not equal to beautypresented explicitly in Ducasse's The Philosophy of Art and Reed's The Grass Roots of Art contributes greatly to the modern aesthetics and artistic theories,but,in which there are still some other flaws like the shallowness and extensiveness of the theory's interpretation,the simplicity of ideological understanding and the vagueness of values.
