Abstract
The assumption that there is an essential relation between beauty and can be falsified theoretically and historically.Theoretically,this assumption might be due to the impulse to attribute beauty,as a value,to art,in which the propositionsart should be beautiful and art is beautiful are confused with each other.Historically,this assumption is an overgeneralization made by the Western philosophers in the 18th century limited within their own times.The traditional misunderstanding is harmful to both the study of beauty and the philosophy of art.
