Abstract

The published articles and the citation index of the Journal of Disease Surveillance(DS) ,2003-2006 were statistically analyzed by using of the bibliometrics methods for improving the quality of DS.Among 1082 papers published in the period of four years,50 articles received supports by various kinds of research funds.92.1% of articles distributed in the institutes of disease control, with the first authors covering 31 provinces(cities, autonomous region) of the country. The references of the papers published in DS were mostly in Chinese and English with the reference type mainly being journals and books. The price index increased year by year while the impact factor increased from 0.159 in 2003 to 0.621 in 2006,with the total frequency of citation increasing from 332 in 2003 to 633 in 2006.In recent years,DS had achieved some progresses, but problems were still existed. For example, the fund-aided papers were lack, the distribution of institutes and region of authors were imbalance. This research indicated that it was necessary for DS to intensify soliciting contributions and expanding the paper source to the improve the academic level and its influence comprehensively.
