Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the various and the best means for the treatment of ureteral calculi.Methods:The treatment of 320 cases of ureteral calculi were compared by ESWL, ureteroscopic lithotripsy and open surgery.Results:129 cases were treated by ESWL( 40.3%), 153 cases were treated by ureteroscopic lithotripsy( 47.8%), 38 cases were treated by open surgery( 11.8%), 15 cases( 9.8%) were obliged to accept the open surgery because the ureteroscopic lithotripsy was failure. 47 cases( 36.4%) were obliged to accept ureteroscopic lithotripsy or open surgery because of ESWL failure.Conclusions:ESWL was more suitable for the upper ureteral calculi and Ⅰkind stone. ureteroscopic lithotripsy was more suitable for middle lower ureteral calculi and Ⅱ kind stone. ureteroscopic lithotripsy is becoming the important technology and the best method for ureteral calculi because of its good effect. Open surgery is the base of all ureteral operation. It was suggested that ESWL should be used carefully in the treatment of ureteral calculi.
