Comprarative study of citalopram and clomipramine in treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder

Abstract

Objective:To compare the efficacy and side effects of citalopram and clomipramine in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Method:Sixty patients with obsessive-compulsive disorders were randomly assigned into citalopram group and clomipramine group for eight weeks.Efficacy were assessed with Yale-Brown obsessive-compulsive scale(Y-BOCS),Hamilton depressive scale(HAMD) and Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA). Results:There was no significant difference in efficacy between citalopram and clomipramine.The side effects of citalopram were less than clomipramine significantly. Conclusion:Citalopram is an effective and safe drug in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorders.
