Research progress on the relationship between Lactobacillus and Streptococcus mutans in caries

Abstract

Streptococcus mutans is recognized as a cariogenic bacterium which is closely related to the occurrence and development of caries.Lactobacillus is the resident flora in oral cavity.However,its role in caries is in controversy.The relationship between Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus in caries is not clear yet.This article reviewes the relationship of these two species and their potential mechanism in caries.
