Abstract
The characteristics of nano-composite materials were simply introduced. Machinability of cast iron, especially white cast iron, was explained. The advances in the improvement of machinability of cast iron were reviewed from the views of both cast iron itself and the materials of its cutting tools. The preparation of nano-ceramic composite cutting tools and the advances in the researches on the machinability of cast iron by nano-ceramic composite cutting tools were reviewed. Potential problems in this field were analyzed. The future trend was suggested in the end of this paper.
