Therapeutic effect of metered dose inhaler of bronchodilator during non-invasive positive pressure ventilation.

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effective methods to deliver the metered-dose-inhaler (MDI) of salbutamol during non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV). Methods The ventilator and mask were connected with MDI by T-tube. We compared the lung functions and ventilator parameters to salbutamol delivered via MDI during NIPPV, but the control group, only spontaneous breathing using MDI and MDI-spacer as self-controlled study. Results After 45 min, the FEV_1 of lung function were significantly improved in combination of metered-dose-inhaler (MDI) of salbutamol administration and NIPPV or only in MDI-spacer of salbutamol administration (P0.05). No changes in HR, RR, SpO_2 were observed during salbutamol delivery between the groups. All patients can received the treatment smoothly, and no any side effect was found. Conclusion It is indicated that delivery of salbutamol via MDI during NPPV is a feasible and effective method.
