Treatment of cough variant asthma by "Kangmin Zhike Decoction":report of 42 cases

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Kangmin Zhike Decoction for cough variant asthma(CVA).Methods Eighty-two subjects were randomized into two groups: control group in which 40 cases were treated with routine therapy,while the treatment group in which 42 cases were treated with Kangmin Zhike Decoction and routine therapy,with the course of 3 weeks.The clinical efficacy,symptoms of cough ease and relief times at night were observed.Recurrence rate was observed after 6 months' follow-up.Results The total effective rate was 90.47% in treatment group and 70.00% in control group.The difference of the clinical effective rate between the two groups was statistically significant(P0.05).At the end of the 6 months' follow-up,the recurrence rate was 11.90% and 40.00% in treatment group and in control group respectively.The difference of the recurrence rate between the two groups was statistically significant(P0.01).The cough relife,cough disapperance,and the at night time without coughing all were better in the treatment group than in the control group(P0.01).Conclusion Kangmin Zhike Decoction is effective for cough variant asthma.
