Abstract

Bilateral occlusion model of rats was made and killed on 1d after reperfusion following 10 min forebrain ischemia, then paraffin sections were made to observe the changes of pyramidal cells in CA1 region of the hippocampus and study neuroprotective effect of α lipoic acid(LA)in cerebral ischemia reperfusion(IR) injury through HE and Tunel staining, the results showed:apoptosis and necrosis are two patterns of cell death in the course of rat transient global ischemia;compared with that in the control group, the injury of CA 1 region in the hippocampus was severe, lots of apoptotic cell was seen and LA can inhibit the apoptosis of pyramidal cells. It has been tested that apoptosis may be an important form in the course of cerebral ischemia reperfusion(IR) injury and LA can protect brain tissue from IR injury.
