Abstract

Objective To discuss the application value of the detection of serum procalcitonim(PCT) in the diagnosis of respiratory tract infection. Methods Seventy-eight samples were collected from patients with respiratory tract infection in respiratory department and emergency department from Jun.2008 to Jun.2011,PCT and CRP were measured, and white blood cells were counted also. Results The differences of PCT,CRP and WBC between the bacteria infection group and the virus infection group had significant difference(P 0.01 or P 0.05).The positive rates of PCT in the bacteria infection group, was superior to serum level of CRP and WBC.PCT had highest specificity, negative predictive value, positive predictive value, and accuracy amond three index. Conclusion The serum level of PCT is superior to serum level of CRP and WBC in application value for diagnosis of respiratory tract infection.
