Abstract
Objective:To assess the therapeutic effect of phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantion for cataract on senile patients with high myopia. Methods:Phacoemulsification with IOL implantation was done on 38 cases(47eyes)suffered from complicated cataract and high myopia on senile patients with long axial length(26mm).The nucleus hardness was grade Ⅰ in 5 eyes, grade Ⅱ in 17 eyes, grade Ⅲ in 25 eyes. The average age of the patients was 67.4 years(60~76 years). The mean axial length was 27.4mm(26.12~29.7mm).The mean diopter of IOL was(8.47±3.75)D(+2~+15D).Results:Postoperatively,the uncorrected or corrected visual acuity 0.3 or better at 1 month was 42 eyes(89.4%).There were posterior capsular rupture in 2 eyes(4.3%)and mild corneal edema 11 eyes(23.4%).Conclusion:Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation is a sutiable technical for the cataract on senile patients with high myopia. The technical skilfulness might be of great importance in the success of the srugery.
