Abstract
Objective To investigate the etiological factor and clinical features of anterior ethmoid nerve syndrome and to explore therapies for this syndrome.Methods 35 cases of ethmoid nerve syndrome were diagnosed by CT endoscopy and 1%tetracaine and 1%ephedrine tests and treated by different surgical methods,according to the specific anatomical variations.All the cases were followed up for 0.5 to 2 years to evaluate the curative effect.Results Among these cases,8 were found with upper septum deviation,9 with middle turbinate hypertrophy,7 with middle turbinate pneumatization,5 with shift of middle turbinate,6 with lower middle turbinate deviation inwards due to the ethmoid sinus overgrowth.Following the surgical therapy,32 cases(91.4%)were significantly effective and 3(8.6%)were effective,all with their symptoms much immproved.Conclusions Minimally invasive endoscopic surgery is a safe,effective treatment for ethmoid nerve syndrome.All patients underwent preoperative nasal endoscopy and CT scan.
