On Zhang Shi's Confucian Classics Research

Abstract

At a standpoint of essence study of Confucian Classics in Song Dynasty,Zhang Shi criticized abuses of study in Han Dynasty.He put forward an idea that study on Confucian Classics should elucidate essence and thought the Book of Changes is used for loading Tao(essence).He interpreted The Analects of Confucius for Tao and wrote On Mencius for exposition of essence.Zhang Shi put essence of Confucian Classics as a basis and made his own theory,which promoted development of Neo-Confucianism.
