Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of treatment by interleukin - 2 for immune function of RBC in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) during radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Metheds Ninety patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma were divided into three groups. Group A was treated by interleukin - 2 , radiotherapy and chemotherapy; Group B by intravenous interleukin - 2, radiotherapy and chemotherapy; Group C by radiotherapy and chemotherapy only. Immune function of RBC was determined by the method of rose circle assay. Results The immune function of RBC was lower in NPC patients than that in normal subjects (P0.01). After treated by interleukin - 2, the immune function of RBC was improved in group A and group B, and there were no obviously change after followed radiotherapy and chemotherapy (P0.05). In group C by convention radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the immune function of RBC decreased obviously after radiotherapy and chemotherapy (P 0.05). Conclusion Our result suggested that the clinical application of interleukin - 2 could improve the immune function of RBC in NPC patients during radiotherapy and chemotherapy and it is beneficial to the treatment of NPC patients.
