Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic benefit of urapidil in the treatment of acute congestive heart failure. Methods 50 inpatients with acute congective heart failure due to all kinds of heart diseases(New York Heart Association classes IV) who were on ACE inhibitor、diuretic and cardiotonic therapy were randomly divided into 2 groups:24 patients were given Urapidil at a rate of 100~500 μg/min i.v.pump continuously for 3~10 days.26 patients were given Nitroglycerol intravenously at a rate of 15~50 ug/min continuously for the same period. Results There were a significant fall both in systolic and diastolic blood pressure,a marked improvement of the cardiac function with increased LVEF,the slower heart rate(P0.05),but no severe complications. Conclusion Urapidil was useful and safe in the therapy of acute congestive heart failure.
