Different suture techniques for arteriovenous fistula in hemodialysis patients

Objective To analyze the influencing factors of different suture technique on success rate and year patency rate of radial artery-cephalic vein arteriovenous fistula.Methods Totally 380 chronic renal failure patients underwent radial artery-cephalic vein arteriovenous shunt for hemodialysis during 5 years.Their data were retrospectively analyzed to investigate the influence of continuous suture and discontinuous suture on the success rate and year patency rate of the fistula.Results Significant difference in the operation success rate was found by continuous and discontinuous suture.The year patency rate by discontinuous suture was better than that by continuous suture.Both operation success rate and year patency rate were not related to sex,age,or kidney function.Anastomotic methods,condition of blood vessel and anastomotic technique were important factors that decide the operative failure and fistula occlusion.Conclusion Correct selection of suture technique is of key importance for both operation success and maintenance of year patency of radial artery-cephalic vein arteriovenous fistula.Discontinuous suture should the first choice.
