Industrial Agglomeration and Regional Economic Growth:An Empirical Study on Chinese Manufacturing Industry

The impact of industrial agglomeration and its forms on economic growth has received more emphasis from increasing researches.Considering different forms of industrial agglomeration,this paper investigates the impact of it in terms of both within-industry agglomeration and co-agglomeration on regional economic growth.The empirical results indicate that within-industry agglomeration promotes economic growth more efficiently in eastern China,while co-agglomeration plays a more significant role in central and western regions.Taking the current situation of the regional development into account,we hold that,as our policy suggestions,the eastern region should pay more attention to the scale effect of industries and,however,avoid excess capacity in a single industry.As for the central and western regions,the development of emerging industries should be associated with other industries,meanwhile,improve the degree of within-industry agglomeration.
