Abstract

Objective The diagnosis of epilepsy mainly depends on the clinical manifestation of seizure onset in patient with epilepsy and the patient' s EEG (electroencephalograph) records. Some patients with epilepsy couldn' t describe or recall the situation of seizure attack in detail because of varies causes, it could induce an incorrect diagnosis. Video - EEG may help doctor to improve the accuracy of diagnosing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Video - EEG in the diagnosis of epilepsy. Methods Three patients with epilepsy were recorded with sixteen channel digital Video - EEG, and electrodes were placed according to the 10 -20 system including Cz, Reference electrodes were placed on Aland A2. Results All of five patients were observed with seizure onset during EEG recording, the times of seizure onset recorded were 4,2, 1 and 1, respectively. We noticed the EEG changes in preic-tal, ictal, and postictal seizure periods. Conclusion Our study demonstrated that Video - EEG could remedy the insufficiency of routine EEG record and improve the accuracy of epilepsy diagnosis.
