Analysis of antibiotic drugs in outpatient's prescriptions in a general hospital

Objective To investigate the usage of antibiotic drugs used in the outpatients of each department in a hospital.Methods 27950 prescriptions were randomly selected from July of 2004 to June of 2005.There were10544 prescriptions in the department of Internal medicine;Surgery(4253);Gynaecology and Obsterical(4247);Pediatrics department(4580);Facial feature department(4326).Then these prescriptions was analysised.Results There were10563 prescriptions containing antibiotics drugs of total prescriptions,accounted for 37.67%.The average expenditure of antibiotic drugs of each prescription was 72.22 yuan,accounted for 48.83% of the average expenditure of each prescription.There were 2166 prescriptions in drug combination,accounted for 20.51% of those prescriptions containing antibiotic drugs.Conclusion Antibiotics use is not rational in the hospital,and serious drug abuse may exist.
