Analysis on Prescriptions Containing Antibiotic in An Outpatient Department in 2007

Objective To evaluate the situation of irrational use of antibiotics among outpatients so as to promote rational drug use in the clinic.Method A total of 3 000 outpatient prescriptions were randomly selected from the Outpatient Department of the Second People's Hospital of Neijiang city from October to December in 2007.The prescriptions containing antibiotic were analysed statistically.Results The prescriptions containing antibiotic accounted for 44.0%(1 320),and in which 926 prescriptions(70.2%) with single oral dose of antibiotic,308(23.3%) with antibiotic injection.Besides,211 out of 1 320 proscriptions(16.0%) were irrational ones which accounted for 70% of total 3 000 prescriptions analysed.Conclusion Antibiotic abuse is common among outpatients.The authors suggest it is necessary to establish moniforing mechanism and to carry out pharmaceutical care.
