Abstract
The image of lotus in Chinese Buddhism is discussed through concise research on the inherent and symbolic meanings of lotus in Buddhist Sutras.The lotuses in Wang Wei's Buddhist poems and nature poems respectively lead to two different directions.The lotuses of Buddhist poems reveal Wang Wei's understanding and recognition of Sad-dharma and other Mahayana Sutras,while the natural lotuses dissolve the difference between attachment to dharma and attachment to ego and make his landscape poems permeated by Buddhist essences without signs,establishing his historical position of Poetry Buddha.
