Abstract

Objective: To explore the effects of impaired glucose metabolism on cardiovascular autonomic nervous systems in hypertension patients by studying the heart rate variability and blood pressure variability in essential hypertension(EH) patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).Methods:Simultaneous 24h recordings of ECG and blood pressure in both 36 EH patients and 33 EH patients with DM, and comparative analysis of HRV and BPV were performed between the two groups of EH patients.Results:HRV of EH patients with DM decreased than those of the simple EH patients(P0.05~0.01).The BPV(dSBPSD、 dSBPCV、24 hSBPSD) increased in EH patient with DM than those of simple EH patients(P0.05~0.01). Conclusion:The cardiovascular autonomic nervous systems are impaired in DM patients, which in turn induced abnormal structure and function of cardiovascular systems. Therefore, improvement of cardiovascular autonomic nervous systems may reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular complications of those EH patients with impaired glucose metabolism.
