Abstract
Objective To evaluate and compare the efficacy,liability and safety of topical anesthesia and peribulbar anesthesia for trabeculectomy.Methods Clinical data of 68 cases(73 eyes) with trabeculectomy were retrospectively analysed.Among the 73 eyes,42 eyes were under topical anesthesia and the other 31 eyes under peribulbar anesthesia.Results The outcome of topical anesthesia group reached level Ⅰ in 27 eyes(64.29%),level Ⅱ 12 eyes(28.57%),level Ⅲ 3 eyes(7.14%).The outcome of peribulbar anesthesia group reached level Ⅰ in 23 eyes(74.19%),level Ⅱ 6 eyes(19.35%),level Ⅲ 2 eyes(6.45%).All the eyes of level Ⅲ were high intraocular pressure before the operation.No eyelid hemorrhage and conjunctival edema was found in the topical anesthesia group.The intraocular pressure was well controlled after operation in two groups.Conclusion Topical anesthesia is relatively safe and effective for trabeculectomy.Pre-operative selection of suitable case is needed.
