Abstract

For supplying the thinning and establishment bases of the 2nd generation seed orchard and advanced seed orchard, progeny test of Cunninghamia lanceolata was conducted on the Guanzhuang National Forest Farm of Shaxian. The results showed that the annual growth of tree height,DBH and volume at the age of 9 years was 0.90 m,1.29 cm and 0.006 46 m3respectively.Furthermore,the average basic wood density and red-heartwood rate was 0.413 5 g·cm-3and 53.30% respectively.Additionally, the tree height,DBH,volume and red-heartwood rate were slightly controlled by genetic factors, and the family heritability of these traits was estimated at 0.278 9,0.282 5,0.294 7 and 0.331 3 respectively.Using an index equation established by volume and red-heartwood rate,14 families(e.g.75 and 60) were identified as superior families. The average index value of families selected was 7.108 5,which was 13.78% more than that of population. And the averages volume and red-heartwood rate of these families were 0.073 60 m3and 58.48%,which were 26.66% and 9.72% more than those of population.Furthermore,7.86% genetic gains of volume and 3.22% genetic gains of red-heartwood rate were captured by the selection of superior families.
