Abstract
Objective To observe the effects of trimetazidine on cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods Eighty patients with CHF received conventional therapy were randomly divided into 2 groups, the trimetazidine group (n=40) and the conventional therapy group (n=40). Patients in the trimetazidine group were given trimetazidine 20 mg three times a day for 6 months. NYHA functional class and echocardiographic indices(LVEDD, LVMI, LVEF) were compared before and after 6 months therapy. Results After 6 months of therapy, cardiac function was improved in 95% CHF patients with trimetazidine therapy, while only 52. 5% in conventional group; LVMI in trimetazidine group[(106. 7±13.6) g/m~2 vs. (136. 7±14. 8) g/m~2]was lower than in conventional group LVEF was higher in trimetazidine group[(51.4±6.9) % vs. (43.6±7.7) %]than in conventional group. Conclusions Trimetazidine can improve cardiac function in CHF patients treated with conventional therapy.
