Abstract
Polyethylene(PE)/montmorillonite(MMT)nanocomposites were prepared through melt intercalation using maleic anhydride modified PE (PE-g-MAH) as a compatibilizer. The microstructure and morphology of the composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The characterization indicated that the PE chains had intercalated into the layer of MMT. The influence of PE-g-MAH was studied. The thermal decomposition temperature of composites was enhanced, and the barrier properties against organic solvent and vapor were improved significantly compared with neat PE.
