Abstract

A spectrophotometric method for determination of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTMAB) was studied. In HCl-NaAc buffer solution at pH 6.0,fading reaction of Congo red(CR) occurred when forming ion complex with CTMAB.At maximal fading wavelength of 515 nm,the degree of fading is linear with CTMAB concentration in the range of 5.0×10-6-4.0×10-5 mol/L.The apparent molar absorptivity was 1.29×104 L·mol-1·cm-1,and the detection limit was 1.5×10-6 mol/L.This method was applied to the determination of CTMAB in environmental water samples with the relative standard deviation of 1.2%-2.3%,and the recovery of 97.2%-103.0%.
