Abstract

Investigation on soil physical properties,water-holding capacity of forest floor and soil for the different age-stages of a subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest was conducted in Xiaokeng,Southern Anhui Province,and the results showed that there existed significant differences in soil properties and water conservation function among different stages of the forest.During the forest rehabilitation,the forest floor was developed,soil physical properties were improved,and their water conservation functions were enhanced gradually along with the stand development.Based on the total and effective water-holding capacity of litter and soil(0~40 cm),the order of the water conservation function for the forest stands was as pre-matured stand(2152 and 244 t·hm-2)mid-aged stand(2010 and 227 t·hm-2)young stand(1883 and 186 t·hm-2),indicating that the hydrological effect of soil was greater significantly in the pre-matured stand than that in the young stand.
