Abstract

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3),which is a downstream target of cytokine and growth factor receptors,is not only involved in the body's normal physiological processes,but has also been implicated in tumor growth,metastasis,and infiltration.Recent studies have suggested that STAT3 is regulated by genes such as GRIM-19,SOCS3,PTEN,and PIAS3.Dysfunction in the expression of its these genes can lead to persistent activation and increased expression of STAT3,leading to tumor development.During the pathogenesis of ovarian cancer,the STAT3 signal transduction pathway is essential to activating numerous oncogenic and pro-tumor molecules,including matrix metalloproteinases,Bcl-2 family members,vascular endothelial growth factor,and Her-2,all of which can lead to vascular remodeling,invasion,metastasis,drug resistance,and decreased apoptosis.Thus,STAT3 may play an important role in ovarian cancer,providing a new target for therapy.
