Abstract

Based on the historic data of flood disasters, the paper studied the basic characters of flood disaster, such as asymmetric seasonal change, distinct interannual variabilities and serious destruction in Guangzhou City. The mechanism of the flood disaster in Guangzhou City was discussed from the disastrous environment, cause factors and the disaster bearing body by the system theory of disaster. Suggestions of engineering and non-engineering measures for flood prevention were put forward.
