Abstract

Objective To study the expression of STAT3 in human carcinoma of larynx specimens. Methods The expression of STAT3 in human laryngeal carcinoma specimens was investigated by immunohistochemical staining;the expression of STAT3 mRNA in human laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma specimens was examined by using RT-PCR.Results Immunohistochemical staining analysis revealed that STAT3 was expressed in 23 of 30 human laryngeal carcinoma specimens but was expressed in 2 of 8 nonmalignant laryngeal tissue(P0.05). The mRNA of STAT3 are positive in 21 of 30 human laryngeal carcinoma specimens but positive in 2 of 8 nonmalignant laryngeal specimens(P0.05).Conclusion Compared with nonmalignant laryngeal tissues, the expression level of STAT3 in laryngeal carcinoma tissues was significantly higher(P0.05).It suggests that the expression of STAT3 may be related to the risk and development of laryngeal carcinoma.
