Abstract

This study designed to observe the distribution and expression of IL-21(interleukin-21,IL-21) in laryngeal carcinoma tissue and adjacent normal tissue, and explore the role of IL-21 in the pathogenesis laryngeal carcinoma.Clinical data of 96 cases of pathologically diagnosed laryngeal carcinoma were collected in this study.RT-PCR and Western blot analysis showed that both gene and protein expression of IL-21 was significantly increased in laryngeal carcinoma, compared to adjacent normal tissues(P 0.01);the expression of IL-21 closely related to some the clinical parameters of the tumor.Immunohistochemistrical assay indicated that cells of adjacent normal tissue showed very weak expression of IL-21,while tumor cells and inflammatory cells in laryngeal carcinoma tissue showed significant strong expression of IL-21,and IL-21 was strongly expressed in the nucleus and cytoplasm in the laryngeal carcinoma. The increase of gene and protein expression of IL-21 in laryngeal carcinoma were closely associated with clinical progression, indicating that IL-21 plays a role in the development process of laryngeal pathology, thus IL-21 may be used as an important prognostic indicator in clinical judgment.
