Depression in pre and post hemodialysis first time in patients with uremia

Objective To investigate the incidence and influencing factors of depression in patients with uremia before and after their first hemodialysis.Methods Fifty-six patients with uremia were investigated with the Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS) and Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS).Results The incidence of depression was 83.93%,89.29%,75.00% at one week before hemodialysis,one day before hemodialysis and one week after hemodialysis,respectively.The patients' income,complications and social support were the influencing factors of depression.Conclusions It is suggested to pay attention to the depressive emotion and take actions to prevent moderate to severe depression in uremia patients before and after their first hemodialysis.
