Abstract
Objective To explore the characteristics and clinical values of cerebrospinal fluid cytology in children with viral encephalitis. Methods Eighty children with viral encephalitis were enrolled as the case group and 40 children without central infectious disease were included as the control group.Abnormality rates of cerebrospinal fluid routine examination, cerebrospinal fluid biochemistry examination and cerebrospinal fluid cytology examination were compared between the two groups. Results The frequency of transformation lymphocyte was 87.5% and the abnormality detection rates were 41.2%,37.5%,and 78.8% for cerebrospinal fluid routine examination, cerebrospinal fluid biochemistry examination and cerebrospinal fluid cytology examination respectively in the case group(P0.01).Positive rates in the case group were 78.8% before treatment and 7.5% after treatment with significant difference(P0.01).Conclusion Cerebrospinal fluid cytology examination plays an important role in the diagnosis of viral encephalitis and in evaluation of treatment effects.
