Abstract

Objective To study the effect of non_penetrating trabeculectomy combined with amniotic membrane implantation for the treat ment of open angle glaucoma(OAG).Methods Non_penetrating trabeculectomy combined with amniotic membrane implantation was performed in 36 eyes of 36 patients of OAG. Amniotic membrane was implanted under the scleral flap .Follow_up period ranged from 6 to 24 months(mean 8.24months).Results No any serious complication was found in all eyes. Visual acuity was decreased in 3 eyes .At the end of follow_up,the postoperative intraocular pressure(IOP)(14.864.15)mmHg was lower than the preoperative IOP(29.655.76)mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa),Functional filtering blebs were found in 30 eyes. Conclusion Non_penetrating trabeculectomy combined with amniotic membrane implantation can effectively reduce the lOP without the occurrence of serious complications that commonly seen after the trabeculectomy. It is an effective surgical method for the treatment of OAG.
