Abstract

An α-counter with time coincidence function was developed to measure U and Th contents in geological samples for TL(thermoluminescence) and OSL(optically stimulated luminescence) dating. The U and Th contents in geological samples are calculated by α total counting rate and pair coincidence counting rate, and the annual dose rate can be estimated.Tests of the α-counter showed that the measurement results were comparable with that of a NaI γ spectrometer.
