Abstract

Objective To prove the advantage of patella fracture fixed with the cannulated screws plus the tension band through the biomechanical test and clinical application. Methods Eight pairs of fresh cadaver knees were used to be tested.Patella fractures were created in sixteen knees and repaired by one of techniques:cerclage wirng, paralles kirschner wires plus the tension band and the cannulated screws plus the tension band. The loding condition of three methods was analysed.20 patients of patella fracture were treated with the cannulated screws plus the tension band. Results The cannulated screws plus the tension band had strong fixation, high load and good stability. It was superior to the cerclage wiring and parallel kirschner plus the tension band(P0.05).The duration of follow up was 2~21 months. All cases were union. The function of the knee joints was good. Conclusion According to biomechanical principle, the cannulatted screws plus the tension band are the best way to treat the patella fracture.
