Abstract
Drought tolerance in seedling stage of 17 inbreds and 10 hybrids of maize was detected under the dry condition that water content of soil was a little higher than wilt coefficient using the product of drought tolerance cofficient of emergence rate and biological yield as the drought tolerance index and its multiple linear regression analysis dependent on the drought tolerance coefficients of coleoptile length, emergence ratio, root weight, biological yield, proline content, electric conductance and leaf water conservation was conducted. The regression of drought tolerance in seedling stage dependent on the drought tolerance coefficients of coleoptile length, proline content and leaf water conservation was non significant and the later three coefficients could not perform as the indexes of drought tolerance identification in maize. The regression of drought tolerance in seedling stage dependent on the drought tolerance coefficients of root weight and electric conductance had different significance between inbreds and hybrids and further studies should be carried out.
