The protective effect of Herba Erigeromtis against glaucoma of SD rats

Objective To observe the effects of Herba Erigeromtis against ischemia reperfusion injury in the rat retina.Methods Retinal ischemia was induced in SD rats by raising the intraocular pressure to 150 cm H2O(14.63 kPa)for 60 min.The rats in treatment group were agiven an intraperitoneal injection of Herba Erigeromtis at a dose of 150 mg/kg,and the rats in control group an intraperitoneal injection of 0.9% sodium chloride at a dose of 0.5 ml.The density of cells in the retinal ganglion cell layer and the thickness of every layer in retinal which were in the treatment group and the control group were observed at 3 d,5 d and 7d after retinal ischemia.Results The data which was the density in RGCs and the thickness of layers in retinal of the treatment group was larger than that of the control group.Conclusion It suggests that Herba Erigeromtis may provide protection against retinal ischemia reperfusion injury.
