Abstract

Objective: To explore the classification and therapy of early postoperative inflammatory bowel obstruction (EPIBO). Methods: Based on the classification criterion, 43 patients were divided into simple and complex type. Routine conservative treatment was given to the simply type while somatostatin and dexamethasone were given to the complex type. The therapeutic efficacy was observed and the clinical significance was investigated. Results: Early postoperative inflammatory intestinal obstruction usually occurred 6 days (4~8 d) postoperatively. The patients of simple type were all cured in the mean period of 11 days (7~22 d), while the mean period of complex type was 13.5 days (8~29 d). Conclusion: Conservative treatment might be effective and adopted for EPIBO patients.
