Abstract

Objective To investigate the curative effect of thoracoscopic surgery in treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax. Methods Forty-eight hospitalized patients of spontaneous pneumothorax were selected. Twenty-four cases were treated with thoracoscopic surgery and other 24 cases with open chest surgery. The Duration of operation, the amount of bleeding, the retain time of thoracic duct, the utility time of antibiotics, and hospital staying time were compared. Results Comparing to the open thoracic surgery, the duration of surgery was a lot shorter and bleeding during surgery was a lot less with thoracoscopic surgery. The utility time of antibiotics, the retain time of thoracic duct, and hospital staying time were significantly shorter in thoracoscopic surgery group. Conclusions The shorter surgery time, less bleeding, faster recovery, and shorter hospital staying time are the main advantages of thoracoscopic surgery in treating patients with spontaneous pneumothorax.
