Abstract

Objective To discuss the influence of early diagnosis and treatment over the prognosis of retinal breaks in eyes with acute posterior vitreous detachment. Methods We studied 95 patients with retinal breaks who complained of light flashes and floaters,59 of whom suffered retinal detachment. Results Retinal breaks of 59 eyes, which developed retinal detachment, were not found in time.Retina can be reattached with cryopexy even vitreous operation.Retinal breaks of 35 patients without rtinal detachment were found in time and photocoagulation nicely healed the breaks. The vision acuity was kept better. Conclusions Early diagnosis and timely photocoagulation are the keys to strive for favorable prognosis in eyes with breaks caused by posterior vitreous detachement.
