On the Recognition of the Tusi Descendants of Eight Clans

According to the clan pedigrees and legends the Tusi descendants of the Eight Clans are supposed to come from the outside Han generals. Yet,historic documents show that their ancestors should be the Buyi people. The main causes are that the public misunderstand the Yuan Dynasty's official ranks,that the Eight Clans' elites invented the origin ofexternal forefathersby imitating the Han people,and that the Buyi language gave way to the Chinese language in the Eight Clans' areas.
