Blood platelet property in patients with acute pancreatitis after somatostatin treatment

AIM To study blood platelet property in patients with acute pencreatitis (AP), and the effect of somatostatin (SS, stilamin or octreatide) on it.METHODS Blood platelet parameters were surveyed by automatic instrument of blood cells analyser in AP patients (n=55 ) before and one week after SS treatment.RESULTS No significant change was found in platelet formation in patients with acute edematous pancreatitis (AEP ). Mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet distribution width (PDW) was increased after ooe week.No significant effec on lIatelet proprty was found after general treatment, but MPV and PDW was significantly increased after SS treatment. Platelet count (Pt) was becreased, but MPV and PDW in acute hemorrhagic and necrotizing pancreatitis (AHNP) was increased. After one week, Pt was significantly increased, but MPV and PDW had no change. MPV and PDW were markly decreased and Pt was increased after general treatment. A significant increase in Pt, but no change in MPV and PDW was found after SS treatment.CONCLUSION AEP patients have significantly different changes of platelet formative property from AHNP, these can indicate the severity of the disease. Pt has no significant change but platelet activity is increased after SS treatment.
