Abstract

Objective To explore the expression of Survivin in the precancerous lesions and early gastric carcinoma, and to study its correlation with the expression of PTEN gene. Methods Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of Survivin 、PTEN in 35 cases of normal gastric mucosa,20 cases of incomplete-type intestinal metaplasia,93 cases of atypical dysplasia and 54 cases of early gastric carcinoma. Results There was no expression of Survivin in the normal gastric mucosa.Survivin was expressed in 1 of the 20 incomplete-type intestinal metaplasia (5.00%).The positive rate of Survivin expression was 6.25% (2/32)、8.57% (3/35),65.73% (17/26) in the mild、 moderate、and severe atypical dysplasia, respectively.Survivin was expressed in 68.51% (37/54) of the early gastric carcinoma. The expresion rate of Survivin was negatively correlated with that of PTEN (γ=-0.564,P=0.0000).Conclusion The expression of Survivin is upregulated in the early gastric carcinoma, which indicates that it may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and progression of gastric carcinoma. The expression rate of Survivin is negatively correlated with the differentiation of the early gastric carcinoma.Survivin expression is closely associated with the PTNE expression.
