Development of a New Mini Seedless Watermelon Cultivar, Manchunhong

Manchunhong is inbred by induced mutation or chromosomal change stable fruitlet tetraploid 4X-62 as female parent, take the fruitlet diploid inbred line of X-21 as the male parent in Kaifeng research institute of vegetables. The fruitlet seedless water melons new cultivar experiment was carried out in greenhouse comparison experiment in 20072009 early spring, and demonstrates good. Fruit development period of 30 d, plant growth is strong, fruit is round, the skin color is light green bottom, and dark green banding, the fruit pulp color is bright red, the central sugar content is 12.5%13.5%, the quality is especially good, the juice tastes sweet, the pulp is crisp and tasty, the white blasted grain are few, the thick of skin is 0.6 cm, the skin is strong and resistant to transports, single fruit weight of 2.5-3 kg, continuous fruit setting ability is strong. Its prominent characteristics are follows: plant growing trend is steady, resistance to disease, early maturity, the yielding ability and the quality surpass Xiaoyuhong seedless watermelon which was promoted in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, bears the low temperature and weak light, suitable for cultivation in sunlight greenhouse and greenhouse cultivation in early spring.
