Seedless watermelon No.12,a large seedless black skin watermelon cul-tivar

Seedless watermelon No.12 is a new large sized seedless watermelon cultivar derived from the cross between SB-8 and RB-13.It is a high quality and productive cultivar,having a mean yield of 4 500 kg per 667 m2.Trials during 2006 to 2007 proved it is a high cropping cultivar among the tested cultivars.The fruit has a dark surface with an average weight of 7 to 8 kg,containing a soluble solids content of 12%;flesh is bright red,uniform with few white abortive seeds,without hollow core.Its developing period is around 107 d with fruit developing period of 34 d.It is easily fruit setting.Due to the hard skin its shipping quality is quite good.It has been approved by the Provincial Agricultural Crop Cultivars' Assessment Commis-sion as a new watermelon,suitable to be recommended for commercial cultivation in April 2008.
